Autism funding in BC can be used for a range of intervention services. Understanding what's covered helps you plan your child's support.
Covered Services
Behavioural Intervention
- Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Behaviour consultant services
Speech-Language Pathology
- Communication assessments
- Speech therapy
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Social communication programs
Occupational Therapy
- Sensory integration therapy
- Fine motor skill development
- Daily living skills training
- School readiness programs
Other Eligible Services
- Physiotherapy (when related to autism)
- Counselling for the child
- Social skills groups
- Music therapy and art therapy (when provided by qualified professionals)
- Respite care (limited)
What Funding Cannot Pay For
- Medical treatments or medications
- Dietary supplements
- Equipment or technology (unless part of a therapy program)
- General childcare
- School tuition
- Services not provided by qualified professionals
Provider Qualifications
Providers must meet specific qualifications:
- Behaviour Consultants: Must be BCBA certified or equivalent
- Speech-Language Pathologists: Must be registered with CSHBC
- Occupational Therapists: Must be registered with COTBC
